For anyone interested in continuing ice this season, the fees breakdown
as follow. At the beginning of the next season you will be able to
pay practice by practice. Unfortunately, as it stands now, ice time
is very expensive and this is what they must charge to cover expenses.

For more information about ice time, pleas check out their web site,
here.

Last week we enjoyed the presence of some of the best in-line
skaters in the world. Rollerblade/MPC's Shane Dobbin and Diego Rosero.
Shane Dobbin came all the way from New Zealand and has many world
and in-line cup titles to his name. Diego Rosero hails from Colombia,
the same place where our former team-mate and friend, Jorge Botero
came from. Diego like Shane and of course Jorge, have many world championship
medals and numerous victories in the world in-line cup. Their technique
and power are arguably the best any of us may have ever seen. We truly
were treated to some of the best skating in the world and anyone who
showed up to practice were fortunate enough to observe and learn a
thing or two from these world class athletes.
From our first practice
with these athletes it became very clear as to why Team USA is no
longer the top nation at the world championships. Anyone who managed
to skate a few laps with them quickly realized that they may be even
stronger than the best skater USA currently has to offer, Joey Mantia.
This weekend added evidence to that thought, as Diego Rosero claimed
victory at this weekends North Shore In-line Marathon with the largest
margin of victory every recorded for that event. 4 minutes and 55
seconds!
We here at Team-RISK appreciate the opportunity to skate with such
high caliber skaters and look forward to the future guests that are
yet to come this season!

Congratulations on a great season this year and a job well
done to all those who went to outdoor and indoor nationals. This season's
star goes to Lisa Stewart who medalled this year at the USA Rollersports
Indoor National Championship. In the Novice Senior Ladies Division,
she finished 3rd overall and received the bronze medal. Tune in for
more updates as I catch up on things.

Team-RISK and the Bay State Speed Skating Club are offering
skaters from both clubs an opportunity to practice with each other
on ice and in-lines. As we all know from the past Olympics, the combination
of ice and in-line has proven to be a potent combination, and earned
the United States many Olympic medals through skaters like Chad Hedrick
and even Apolo Ohno.
The benefits seem to be great for both teams by gaining better conditioning
and technique. To ease the process, equipment will be provided to
any who need it. Fortunately in most cases your current boots will
be sufficient and all you will need to do is swap your blades or frames.

Here are a few helpful reminders for you all.
Regional entry fees need to be collected, please bring them to practice
ASAP.
Outdoor Nationals is fast approaching and if you do not want to pay
double the money, you must have you application faxed in to the national
office no later than tomorrow. Here is a direct link to the forms
required. If you are going to the upcoming clinic then you will not
need to fill out your medical information twice as they will already
have it

The weather has been very nice lately, it's very advisable that you
all take advantage of this and do some outdoor skating, especially
those who have plans on going nationals this year.
Until next time, keep on training!

Amongst the "wheel war" of the Blue Ridge Challenge
in Roanoke, Virginia, Team-RISK had a dozen skaters or so represent
the small region of the North East in perhaps one of the biggest indoor
races of the year. Everyone did exceptionally well but I'd like to
take this opportunity to shine light on two of our skaters who seem
to have been under the radar for a while.
Marissa Pacheco and Rudy Lapin Normann both skated great this last
weekend, making it out of their heats, and taking a huge step forward
in obtaining their goals. Together, they skated in the standard sophomore
2 mix relays and edged out their competition and qualified in the
last remaining spot to gain entree into the semis. Marrissa would
later continue her success, teaming up Kaela Chappell in the standard
sophomore 2 lady relay. Of course there was much more success had
by the team, but these two stuck out the most this time around.
Keep up the hard work all!

This Sunday, the North East Speed League will be holding their first
inter-club open practice, which will be held at the Carousel Skating
Center in Fairhaven, MA. Originally it was scheduled from 9-12 however
a private party has moved the practice to 7-9am. The cost of the practice
will be $10. We will still have our practice later in the
day, but it has also been changed to 4:30-6:30pm.
Over Thanksgiving many of us enjoyed a good meal with our families.
Then there were the few who were much happier competing head to head
at the Thanksgiving invitationals and chowing down on a nice hamburger
and french fry dinner instead.
It would appear our skater did very well too. Here are some of the
results of our skaters. I'm not too sure how accurate these are but
none the less, here you go.

We will now share Tuesday nights with the Providence Roller Derby
Team. Due to this, we have changed our practice time to 6:30pm so
that the roller derby team can get to practice a little earlier as
well. Once 8:30pm comes along it will be their time to skate.
During the Thanksgiving break, the floor should be receiving a fresh
coat of plastic thanks to the financial contribution of our very own
coach, Paul DiJulio. In return the rink has promised us an extra day
of practice, allowing us to skate 3 times a week with no change to
our monthly dues. With that said, please e-mail Paul with your top
3 choices of practice time.
10/31/06
Just a little reminder
that there will be no practice tonight. Practice has been rescheduled
for Wednesday from 7:00pm - 9:00pm so that you all can get some candy.
Happy Halloween!
10/8/06
Just a reminder
that Sunday evening practices will now start at 5 instead of 5:30.
For those of you who can arrive early, off skate exercises will be
done prior to the beginning of practice in the parking lot.
In November, there
will be a race in Waco, Texas and a race in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The one in Texas will consist of both outdoor and indoor races while
the one in North Carolina will only be offering indoor racing. Chip
will be attending the one in NC while Paul will be down in TX along
with MPC wheels. So if anyone is interested in racing next month,
there will be a coach at both events.
Plyo and goal sheets
were handed out today. If you need a copy or have lost yours, please
contact Paul.

After
a few canceled flights and lost luggage, skaters from all over competed

Not to be forgotten were the efforts of Kaela Chappell, Rachael DiJulio,

our skaters learned there is more than just corn in Nebraska. In fact
there are actually hills!

You know you've left a good mark
in the world when there's a two hour line at your wake. This week
a great coach and skater passed away in a motorcycle accident, ending
his life at age 30. Nicholas L. Butler leaves behind his wife of two
and a half years and one year old daughter. Pleases keep Nick and
his family in your prayers.

On
Monday, April 3rd, skaters from all over the region attended the Northeast
USA Roller Sports Association Annual Banquet. The event was held at
the Venus De Milo in Swansea MA. This year our very own Erin DiJulio
was awarded Speed Skater of the Year for all of her hard work and
achievements this past season. Erin serves as a role model for any
athlete, and has shown that commitment and dedication pays off in
trying to reach your goals. Congratulations to Erin and all those
who helped her get to where she is today.
